SEWING

Individuals enrolled in the seamstress training program undergo instruction in sewing using a sewing machine, fabric selection and cutting techniques. They acquire the skills needed to craft clothing, as well as the ability to make alterations to garments as necessary. Through guided exercises, they receive hands-on training while simultaneously gaining the essential practical experience required for their professional development. The program initially began with a cohort of 12 students who are in the process of training to become proficient seamstresses. In addition to honing their practical skills, such as sewing and garment styling, they are instilled with values of punctuality, dependability, and effective time management. Furthermore, each day, participants are provided with a nutritious meal and beverages courtesy of the project. This extra support is deeply appreciated by both the trainees and the local authorities, who have visited the project to observe its positive impact. The program's participants are also responsible for creating uniforms, both for their own use during training and for other groups, such as the hairdressing trainees, who are also being instructed at the Handwork Training Center.

Hairdressing

Unlike Switzerland, in Rwanda, individuals are required to cover the costs associated with practical training. However, within our project, participants are only expected to make a symbolic contribution. Trainees in the hairdressing program acquire skills in maintenance and hairstyling techniques, the proficient use of appropriate tools and products, and a fundamental understanding of hair care services.
